First Puranava India Culture Fest in Seattle
By the immense grace of Sri Swamiji and the Divine Couple, the first-ever Puranava Seattle – India Culture Fest was held by divine grace, at Crossroads Park in Bellevue on May 9, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
The event was inaugurated by Congresswoman Suzan DelBene, who joined in offering prayers through the Mahamantra for global peace, community harmony, and inner transformation. Her participation was especially heartwarming. She listened attentively to the story of Pundaleeka, learned a bhajan, removed her shoes before entering the Vitthala temple exhibit, rang the temple bell, and learned about the chanting of the Hare Rama Mahamantra at the Namachabazaar station.
The event brought together families from across the region in a vibrant celebration of Indian heritage, culture, devotion, and community service. Nearly 100 children participated in cultural performances, while approximately 50 students took part in the quiz competitions. The event hosted 30 vendors and 4 food vendors, creating a lively festival atmosphere throughout the day.
One of the highlights of the event was the Pandharpur Heritage Village, lovingly created by Gopa Kuteeram parents and volunteers. The village featured 16 interactive stations, each showcasing a story, tradition, practice, or craft associated with Panduranga and the sacred town of Pandharpur. To encourage participation, children collected stamps at each station and became eligible for raffle prizes, including an electronic globe, a talking Krishna plush toy, and an India puzzle. The excitement was palpable—after the first raffle announcement following the puppet show, children enthusiastically lined up at the various stations to complete their journeys through the village.
The puppet show attracted a particularly large audience, with an estimated attendance of around 500 people. Throughout the course of the eight-hour festival, between 1,500 and 2,000 people attended the event, making it a tremendous success for a first-year community celebration.
Held at the centrally located Crossroads Park, the event welcomed not only registered participants but also many families and visitors who were enjoying the park that day. The combination of cultural performances, educational exhibits, quizzes, devotional experiences, food, and community engagement created a welcoming atmosphere for people of all ages and backgrounds.
The success of the festival was made possible through the dedicated efforts of numerous volunteers, Gopa Kuteeram parents, sponsors, vendors, and community supporters who came together with a shared spirit of service. Their contributions helped transform a vision into a memorable experience for thousands of attendees.
Hosting a large-scale public event in a city park came with its share of planning, coordination, and logistical challenges. However, the overwhelming response from the community reaffirmed the importance of creating spaces where culture, devotion, education, and community can come together in meaningful ways.
As the first Puranava in Seattle, this event marks the beginning of what might become a cherished annual tradition. With the grace of Sri Swamiji and the continued support of the community, Seattle devotees look forward to building on this foundation and bringing even more families together in the years to come.
