Tirupporur Murugan Temple
Near Chennai, India, there is a village called Thiruporur. In this holy place, there is a Murugan temple in which Lord Muruga has appeared as Swayambhu (appearing on its own accord). This holy temple was renovated by a Mahatma – Sri Chidambaram Swamigal.
Sri Chidambaram Swamigal, an ardent devotee of Goddess Meenakshi, used to live in Madurai. He used to circumambulate the ‘Pottramarai Kulam’ (The pond of the golden Lotus) within the temple precincts and lived by just partaking of its holy water.
Once Goddess Meenakshi herself appeared before the Saint and ordained him to renovate the Thiruporur Murugan temple. This meant leaving his Goddess Meenakshi and the Saint, filled with grief, expressed it to the Goddess. At once the Goddess blessed him with a small idol of Herself.
He moved to Thiruporur and effected the renovation of the Murugan temple. He made a Chakram of Sri Murugan in this temple which is a very rare and powerful chakra. To this day, all the prayers of devotees who perform ‘Trisati archana’ (the archana of 50 mantras each to the six faces of Lord Muruga) in this temple are unfailingly answered.
