Guru’s grace
A surgeon performs numerous surgeries routinely. He witnesses wellness, disease and death all the time. An undertaker cremates dead bodies all his life. These two are ideally placed to understand the impermanent nature of the physical body and yet they do not develop an iota of dispassion (vairagya) and strive for liberation. This itself clearly shows that the thirst for liberation can only be attained by the Guru’s grace.
