If your mind does not rest in the Self, you will be restless.

~ HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

Our place should be clean, the food we take should be pure, the clothes we wear should be tidy, our body should be kept neat and fresh. However, these are of no use if the mind is not clean. Singing the Divine Name of Krishna is the only way to keep our mind clean.

~ HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

Disability is not limited to the physical body alone. True disability is mental weakness and suspicious nature

 ~HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

Eyes are the windows to one’s mind.

~ HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

One day, the mind would be filled with devotion; on another day, it would long for worldly pleasures; on another day, it would renounce everything. The great Maya called the mind, can slowly be brought under control only through Nama Sankirtan

~HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

Attempting to control the mind while having variety of tasty dishes is like desiring to sit and stand at the same time!

~HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

A piece of iron cannot be easily broken, but when it is exposed to moisture, over time, it gets transformed into rust, and flakes away. Likewise, the mind, which is hard to destroy, when exposed to the grace of the Guru, over time, slowly transforms, softens and can be easily destroyed.

~HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

Just as Arjuna had meticulous focus only on the bird’s eye as instructed by his preceptor Dronacharya, so be our mind with unflinching attention on Mahamantra and Mahamantra alone.

~ HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

Just as how the father of many undisciplined and rebellious children feels miserable as he can neither abandon his children nor embrace them, I too am feeling miserable. My mind is a disobedient child; my intellect thinks it already knows everything on its own accord; my prana is an uncontrollable belligerent child; my body is a sick, weak child; my antahkarana (mental faculty) brings all worldly matters into me constantly. What can I do?

~ HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

One who is attached to worldly pleasures does worship, japa, yoga, sacrificial rites, charity, renovation of temples, annadana etc with the sole intention of attaining the desired fruits. He will be utterly disappointed and sad if he does not attain the desired result. Similarly a Sadhak who does Sadhana to attain jnana (knowledge) should also perform worship, japa, yoga, sacrificial rites, charity, renovation of temples, annadana etc with the sole intention of controlling the mind and bringing it to a state of one-pointedness. If that does not happen he should understand that he has not performed his sadhana properly and should try to correct himself from then on.

~HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

All those who can think above and beyond the level of the normal human mind that confines itself within a tiny radius, are great souls indeed, to that extent

~HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

If we ask anyone to do a job which (s)he loves, work is done perfectly and with joy. When we ask someone to do something which (s)he does not like, it is done grudgingly and hence imperfectly!

Similarly, when we ask the mind to do work, which it loves, like fulfilling desires, etc, it does with so much joy, whole heartedly. When we ask the mind to do bhakti, which it does not like, it does it hesitantly and hence imperfectly.

~HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

Mind is the worst sin! Destroying the mind is the greatest punya (merit)!

~HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

One is truly wise if he exactly knows all that he does not know!

~HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

If you analyze your mind without the grace of Guru or Sri Hari, you will end up with psychological problems.

~ HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

The mind would look at others and say “This life is a myth. The whole world as we see it is an illusion. This physical body is impermanent.” Should not the mind be saying this to itself in the first place?

~ HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

When confronted by an enemy, if we push him away, he would gather a crowd of his people in support and return for a fight. Likewise, when I try to push away desire and anger, they come right back at me gathering more clout. Krishna! I want you to come for my support.

~HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

The world shown by the mind is not at all true. It is only as true as a chronic liar, who vehemently swears on truth, that he never lies and has never lied.

~ HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

If the body dies, you are born again. If the mind dies, you are never born again. When we speak of death, it is only to the physical body. Death of the mind is liberation.

~ HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

Although water and ghee are liquids, they evoke opposite reactions when poured on fire. Ghee kindles the fire, whereas water extinguishes it. Likewise, although worldly matters and the Divine Names of God are just thoughts, they initiate opposite reactions in the mind. Worldly matters expand the mind, whereas the Divine Names of God destroys it, thus leading one to self realization.

~ HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

Heartbeat and pulse are examined by doctors using appropriate instruments. Similarly, by directing our vision inwards and focusing our mind, the ‘anahata’ sound and ‘aham spurana’ can be experienced.

~ HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

Salt, sugar and fat in our food affect organs like heart, kidneys and eyes. Similarly, mind is also an internal organ. The saltiness, sourness and spices in our food affect this internal organ called the mind.

~ HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

Who is a gunavan (the virtuous)? One who weilds efforts to control and destroy the mind!

~HH Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji
